Child Safeguarding Statement

Approved: April 2025|Review Date: April 2026

Our Commitment

The welfare of every child we work with is our highest priority. Next Script is unconditionally committed to creating and maintaining a safe, respectful, and nurturing online learning environment for all students aged 6 to 18.

1. Our Safeguarding Commitment

Next Script takes its duty of care to young learners with the utmost seriousness. We recognise that children can be vulnerable and that online environments, while powerful spaces for learning, must be governed with rigorous safeguarding practices. Our commitment extends to every child who interacts with our platform, regardless of their background, nationality, or learning level.

We are guided by the following principles:

  • The safety, wellbeing, and best interests of the child are paramount in every decision we make
  • Every child has the right to learn free from harm, exploitation, discrimination, or abuse
  • Safeguarding is a collective responsibility shared by our entire organisation — from leadership to tutors to administrative staff
  • We adopt a proactive approach: anticipating risks, not merely reacting to them

2. Tutor Vetting & Standards

Our tutors are the primary point of contact with students, and we hold them to the highest professional standards. Our tutor recruitment and management process includes:

Pre-Employment Checks

  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check or equivalent international background screening for all tutors working with minors
  • Verification of identity, qualifications, and professional references
  • Right to work verification

Safeguarding Training

  • All tutors complete mandatory safeguarding training before their first session with a student
  • Training is refreshed annually and whenever significant new guidance is issued
  • Tutors receive specific guidance on recognising and responding to signs of distress, abuse, or disclosure

Code of Conduct

All tutors must adhere to Next Script's Tutor Code of Conduct, which includes:

  • Maintaining professional boundaries at all times
  • Never engaging in one-to-one communication with students outside of official Next Script channels
  • Never requesting personal information from students beyond what is provided by the platform
  • Reporting any concerns about a student's wellbeing to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) immediately
  • Never recording, sharing, or storing any session footage without explicit written consent

3. Parental & Guardian Responsibility

We work in close partnership with parents and guardians to ensure the safety of every child on our platform. In this partnership:

  • All student accounts are created, owned, and managed by a parent or legal guardian
  • We communicate all session arrangements, policy changes, and safeguarding updates directly with the parent or guardian on record
  • Parents and guardians are encouraged to be present or nearby during sessions, particularly for younger learners
  • We ask that parents inform us promptly of any changes to their child's circumstances that may be relevant to their safety or wellbeing
  • Parents may request a review of any concerns they have about their child's experience at any time by contacting our team

4. Online Safety Measures

We have implemented multiple layers of protection to ensure that lessons take place in a secure digital environment:

Platform Security

  • All sessions are conducted via vetted, secure video platforms that are compliant with applicable data protection regulations
  • Session links and access codes are unique to each lesson and shared only with the verified parent or guardian
  • Platform access is restricted to registered users only — no anonymous or guest access is permitted

Communication Controls

  • Tutors are strictly prohibited from initiating or maintaining direct contact with students through personal social media, messaging apps, email, or any channel outside of official Next Script platforms
  • Any communication between tutors and families must be conducted through our official communication channels (email, in-platform messaging, or WhatsApp Business account)
  • We monitor and log platform communications for safeguarding purposes

Content Standards

  • All educational content shared during lessons or via our platform is reviewed and approved by our curriculum team
  • External websites or resources referenced in lessons must meet our safety standards before being shared with students

5. Recognising & Reporting Concerns

Next Script has clear procedures in place for identifying and responding to safeguarding concerns:

  • All staff and tutors are trained to recognise potential indicators of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or radicalisation
  • Any concern — however minor it may seem — must be reported immediately to our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
  • We will never dismiss or delay acting on a safeguarding concern
  • Where there is reasonable cause to believe a child is at risk of harm, we will report this to the appropriate statutory authorities without delay

Parents and guardians who have concerns about their child's experience with Next Script can contact us directly and confidentially:

6. Data Protection in Safeguarding

Safeguarding records are handled with the utmost confidentiality and in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection law. Information relating to safeguarding concerns is shared on a strict need-to-know basis.

However, the right to confidentiality is never used as a barrier to protecting a child from harm — we will share information with statutory authorities whenever a child's safety requires it.

7. Policy Review

This Child Safeguarding Statement is reviewed annually, or immediately following any significant safeguarding incident or legislative change. It is endorsed by Next Script's senior leadership and shared with all staff and tutors.

We are committed to continuously improving our safeguarding practices in line with sector best practice, UK government guidance (including Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children), and international standards relevant to our operating regions.
